"Author's Notes:

This is a continuation of my submissions, "Wife Christina" and "Honeymoon Cabin." If you didn't read chapters 1 and 2 or "Wife Christina," I'd suggest you read those first and come back to this. Of course, all characters are over 18. "

Tuesday morning Christina was the first one awake. She sat in bed and poked me a few times while I pretended to still be asleep.

"Hey wake up. I see you peeking at me. You didn't tell me we were coming to the North Pole."

"Its warm in here, isn't it?"

"Yea, it is, but not outside."

"How can you tell? Did you go outside?"

"Not without a winter coat I wouldn't."

That sounded a little ominous. I sat up and looked out the window. Snow was falling and there was snow on the trees too. Pretty unusual for mid May, even up there. I got up and went out to check the fire. It was burning low again and I stoked it up. Then I looked out the window. There were at least three or four inches of snow on the deck and more was falling. It was coming down hard too.

I did a quick check of the wood supply in the cabin. There was enough for all day if it was going to be cold. I figured I'd better fill the wood bin right away before the snow buried the wood supply. Back in the bedroom, Christina was still sitting in bed looking out the window with a blanket wrapped around her. I gave her a kiss and started to dress. I keep some clothes up there for emergencies and I took out my long underwear and put them on. I didn't have my wool pants and it looked cold out there.

"You're not coming back to bed?"

"There are things I have to do, things we're not prepared for right now. This is unusual, snow this late. I need to get some things done, just in case we're in for it."

Christina got out of bed. "We're not in trouble are we John?" She sounded a little worried about it.

I shook my head, "No, not if I get some more wood in and keep the deck shoveled. We have plenty of food and I need to fill the water bottles in case the pump freezes."

She started to get dressed. "I'll make us breakfast and get the dishes done after. Do you think we could get stuck here?"

"Not for more than a few days, not this time of year. We're fine, don't worry. A good excuse to stay in bed a few days and play naked games." I smiled wickedly at her and waggled my eyebrows.

She smiled back a little and finished dressing. I got an old pair of boots I had there. They had small leaks in them but would be fine for my work this morning. I shoveled the deck first and then Christina opened the door to tell me breakfast was ready.

I went inside and she had pancakes for us. She said she had found a coffee pot, but didn't know how it worked because there was no basket thing. I said that it was for making camp coffee and it was a little different so I'd show her how. I put some water in it, added a big handful of coffee grounds and put it on the stove to heat up. We ate our pancakes and by then the coffee was ready. I turned the stove down so it wouldn't boil, then I got a cup of cold water and slowly poured it over the coffee. I did it just right and the grounds all sank to the bottom.

I said, "Give that about five minutes now and you'll have the best coffee ever." She smiled at me, then looked out the window. Already there was another two inches of snow on the deck. I figured I better get moving.

The first thing to do was to get out to the road and put a flag out so when the guy who plowed driveways came by, he'd know to plow ours. I kissed Christina and told her I had to walk out to the road and I would be back soon. It's nearly half a mile and I didn't want to take the car. There was a solid six inches of snow on the ground by then and if I got stuck, the snowplow would have its own trouble. So I grabbed the flag and walked out. The snow was still coming down hard and I wondered what the hell was going on. It was cold too, well below freezing. After I put the flag out, I walked back to the cabin and went inside.

Christina gave me a cup of coffee and was already drinking one herself. I asked her if she liked it and she said, "Its good, a lot better than I expected and I thought for sure there'd be grounds in it, but there's only one here or there."

"It's all in how you pour the water. It takes practice, but it's not that hard."

After I warmed up some, I went out and turned the car radio on. The news was not good. An arctic cold front was sweeping down and had dumped as much as fifteen inches of snow in its wake with more falling. Temperatures were as low as eighteen degrees in some places and it would be three days before there was any warm up.

I turned the radio off and started hauling wood. The first thing I did was stock the wood bin. That would be good for a day and a half. Then I loaded up the deck with twice that much and covered it with a tarp. There wasn't much kindling left so I made a pile of that too. Several times Christina came to the door and watched me. I sure would have rather been cuddled up with her under the covers.

I cleaned the deck and the stairs off again and went inside. She gave me another cup of coffee and asked how it was going. I said the wood situation was under control, but I wanted to make sure we got the water bottles and buckets filled. She said she had filled the water bottles and only had the two buckets we had used left to fill.

I explained to her that if the pump froze, we'd be out of water except for the lake, so what we needed to do now was keep everything full. She said she could handle that. I saw she had done the dishes and put them away too. I sat down and Christina sat down next to me.

"John I saw you in the car, were you listening to the radio?"

"Yeah I was listening."

"Its bad isn't it? Otherwise you would have told me already."

I chuckled a little. She really was worried. "Well hon, I'm not sure what you think is bad, it's just a late spring snowstorm."

"Ok that's the good news, now tell me the bad news."

I sat down and looked at her. "Christina really we have nothing to worry about. But here's our situation. The snow is already too deep for us to make it to town. It's coming down at about two inches an hour and we'd just end up stuck between here and town with nothing in between and its thirty four miles. The radio said it's an arctic storm and in some places they already have fifteen inches of snow and more is falling. Temperatures are as low as eighteen degrees F in some places. I think it's like twenty two here, that's what it feels like. They don't expect any warmer weather for three days. The road will get plowed and then the people who plow the driveways out will start. But probably not until the snow stops.

"So in a nutshell, we're holed up here for three or four days. But that should be fine. We've got plenty of supplies and the water we have will last that long if we're careful. We brought more than a weeks worth of food along anyway."

I got up and opened a cupboard next to the sink and showed her. It was full of canned goods. There was another box of them in the shed too and I told her about that too.

"So we're fine, just sort of stuck and we weren't going anywhere anyway, right?"

"That's right. All we have to do is wait it out, make lots of love and we'll be fine."

"Ok, but what about washing up?"

"Unless you want to take a bath in the lake again, we'll be heating water and just washing up in here."

She shivered dramatically. "I'll stay in here and wash and so will you. I don't need you getting sick on me. I don't know how to take care of us out here and you're going to have to do that."

I grinned. She was a trooper too.

I got the last two water buckets for the bathroom and filled them up.

"Christina there's one more thing about the water."

"Ok?"

"When you use the bathroom, don't flush unless you really need to."

I grinned at her and she made a face.

"You don't have to do that unless the pump freezes love."

Then she smiled a little too. "Ok honey, I'm not worried about it. Whatever we need to do, I'll do."

I filled the three big pots on the stove with water and put them on the table. Then I went outside behind the cabin and peed. I figured I might as well start conserving right away. If it dropped below twenty at night, and I thought it would, the pump might be frozen in the morning. When I went back inside, I wondered if I should let the pump prime go. That was such a pain. But we'd done fine with the water so far. I decided to let it go for now and decide in the evening.

I checked the fire and added one log. Most of what I had brought in was not split, so I wanted to keep the fire going. Christina started to make us lunch and I wondered if she wanted to wash up and was afraid to use the water. So I went and put a pot of water on the stove and sat down.

"What's that for?"

"After lunch, I'm going to wash up and then I thought maybe I'd take you to bed and ravish that beautiful body of yours."

"I need a wash too, I'm still sticky from last night."

I grinned. She hadn't said a word. After lunch, the water was just about right. I turned the stove off and took the water over by the fire. I put a thick towel down to stand on, and put some of the water in a second pot. Then I got the soap, a couple washcloths and two towels. I stripped down while she watched me and started to wash. I got the washcloth wet and soaped it up, then washed myself. When I needed more water, I used the second pot. When I was ready to rinse, I dumped the soapy water from the second pot and refilled it.

After I rinsed the soap out of the washcloth, I cleaned the soap off me and took a towel and dried off. She watched me the whole time, fascinated. When I was done, she got up and I sat down. She stripped and saw me watching her and got that shy smile on her face, blushing a little. She did exactly as I had done and we still had half a pot of water.

"John I want to wash my hair too, while the pump still works, will you help me?"

I said I would and we went over to the sink.
